The control of the automotive blower motor based on a resistor is a traditional method that regulates the speed of the blower motor by adjusting the resistance in the current path. This system is primarily used to regulate the heating, ventilation, and air conditioning (HVAC) systems in vehicles to ensure proper air circulation and temperature control within the vehicle.
Principle of Resistor Operation:
The resistor is an electronic component whose resistance value determines the difficulty of current flow. In the resistor-based blower motor control system, a circuit containing multiple resistors is typically used, with these resistors connected in series with different resistance values. The combined resistance values determine the total resistance in the blower motor circuit, thereby affecting the flow of current.
Connection Method of Resistors:
Resistors are connected in the blower motor circuit, usually controlled through a knob or switch. By rotating the knob or adjusting the switch position, the driver or passengers can change the resistance in the circuit, thereby altering the current intensity to adjust the blower motor's speed. This method provides a manual and relatively simple means of control.
Principle of Blower Motor Speed Adjustment:
When the resistance value increases, the total resistance in the circuit increases, leading to a decrease in current. As the speed of the blower motor is directly proportional to the current intensity, a decrease in current results in a slowdown of the blower motor speed. Conversely, when the resistance value decreases, the total resistance in the circuit decreases, causing an increase in current and accelerating the blower motor speed.
Advantages:
Simplicity and Reliability: This control method is relatively simple in design, making it easy to understand and maintain.
Cost-Effective: Compared to more advanced electronic control systems, the resistor-based control has lower costs.
Limitations:
Lower Energy Efficiency: The operation of resistors generates heat, leading to energy loss and lower overall system efficiency.

Modern Development Trends:
With the continuous advancement of automotive technology, resistor-based blower motor control systems are gradually being replaced by more advanced electronic control systems. Modern vehicles tend to utilize electronic control modules (ECMs) and advanced modulation techniques such as Pulse Width Modulation (PWM) to improve efficiency, enable intelligent control, and allow for more sophisticated temperature and climate control systems.
While the resistor-based blower motor control system was a common solution in the past, automotive manufacturers increasingly favor more advanced and efficient electronic control methods to meet the growing demands for comfort and energy efficiency.
